On February 5th, managing director Martijn Arts and conversation manager Renson van Tilborg held a MasterClass about social media and entrepreneurship for about twenty enthusiastic ‘journalists of the future’. Location: Hotel Arena in Amsterdam-Oost.
The MasterClass is part of the programme ‘The Challenge: Reinventing Journalism’, organised by Kees van Mourik from the Funds for Press Development. The Challenge focuses on final year students for journalistic studies as well as graduates; in other words – the new generation of journalists.
The Challenge gives them the chance to shape their renewing journalism ideas and turn them into a concrete plan. The programme consists of a series of 12 MasterClasses held by interesting speakers with truly diverse expertise, from game designers to data journalists.
During the programme the participants (there are 8 teams in the race) transform their concept into a viable business plan. On March 21st 2013, the 3 finalists will be announced. All three will receive funding to roll out their plans. We support them and will follow then on their journey, because online journalism holds an increasingly important role in all our programmes.
Evening insights: the success of journalistic start-ups lies primarily in niches and the combination of multiple revenue models.
To be continued. In March we will present the three winning teams and their plans.
